Deep Purple
This orchid was shot with my 100mm f/2.8 macro at the Kahala Hotel during our recent stay. I love the contrast between the yellow and the purple, and the textures. I did some color reduction on this to get a deeper but more subtle shade of purple.
Lion Dance Toys
There were many toys and fake lion dance stuff for kids on sale at the stores throughout Chinatown during this year’s Chinese New Year’s celebration. This one caught my eye because of the vivid colors which I’ve tried to capture here in this photo, taken at a store in the Chinese Cultural Center in downtown Honolulu. Canon 17-40mm f/4L on a Canon 40D with a EX-580 speedlight.
Incense
This is a photo of incense at the temple in the Chinese Cultural Plaza in downtown Honolulu. Captured using a Canon EX-580 and a Canon 17-40mm f/4L. I like the contrasting colors and the textures in the ashes and the unburned incense.
Macro Fun
Here’s a macro shot with my new Canon 100mm. This is an Oakley watch, with a bit of post-processing. Okay, not a bit, a ton. I like the colors in this one …
Something Fishy
Experimenting with my new flash unit + the 100mm. Focusing on fish is really hard because the 100mm hunts for focus alot. I tried manual focus but at that narrow depth of field the smallest movement pushes the focus area off the fishes eyes. I probably took 50 shots and only 7 or so were good and in focus… thank god for digital!
Sniff sniff
I love texture in photos and here I like Jasmine’s nose in contrast to the dead plant. You can see pretty fine detail in her nose. Used my 100mm macro for this shot. The warmer colors also adds to my overall happiness with this shot. Enjoy!

I like the way the flash highlight made these shiny.
